Aug. 3rd, 2005 06:50 pmHello everyone!
I'm new...and I know how annoying these newbie posts can be, but I wanted to say hi:)
Anyway, I signed up for a beginning tatting class at my local Joann's about a week ago. The first class was supposed to be today, but unfortunately, I was the only one who had signed up for it, so it was canceled.
I'm going tomorrow to return the supplies I had to buy for the class...mainly because I already have other supplies...and I had bought these to stay true to the class list.
anyway, I'm truly lousy at learning to read from print instructions of anything...so I was wondering if anyone knew of sites that might have videos to show different techniques necessary for this art form. I am aware of stitchguide.com but last I checked, they had yet to add any tatting videos...
Thanks for reading!

Date: 2005-08-03 11:43 pm (UTC)I do know of a video called "Tatting I: The Basics" - don't know if it's any good or not, as I need to call to get it transferred to my library. There's also a "Tatting II: Beyond the Basics" that I intend to try if I ever get to that point. :)
I'm still trying to learn to tat - tried it from directions I got online a few months ago but didn't get anywhere with it. I've checked out a book and will be getting the video from the library eventually (hopefully sooner rather than later!).
Was that rambling enough for you? Sorry about that! Here's something hopefully helpful to make up for it: See if your local library has that video (or any video, for that matter). If not, ask them to ILL one(s). I know of one library in your state that has it, so I'm sure you'll be able to get it.

Date: 2005-08-03 11:45 pm (UTC)I only know one site with little tatting videos, here:
http://www.gagechek.com/slb/index.html
Check it out, but in my eyes it's too small, and also too fast for a beginner.
I learned the basic technique without much difficulty from here:
http://www.geocities.com/tatrasutra/how2tat.html
It's a step-by-step guide, not "moving", but with very clear photos.
But I'm sure you'll get more recommendations soon.
Have fun!
