moniqueleigh: (Tatter)
[personal profile] moniqueleigh posting in [community profile] tatting
[livejournal.com profile] elspethdawitch, [livejournal.com profile] kaystarkindler, and I have discussed a few things lately and decided to add some rudimentary Community Rules to our user info. Mostly, these are being put into place to head off any drama before it ever occurs (and let me just say again how happy I am that we've not run into any major drama here! Let's hope it never happens!)

First, a bit of explanation, or Why Did We Bother?
The rules (2-2b) about patterns are purely for copyright reasons. We want to protect you (and the community in general) from any copyright-wars. The easiest way to do this is by saying "No Patterns At All," but that's a little strict. So: If you write a pattern and wish to share it with the community, feel free! If you need help with a particular part of a pattern, please go ahead and post that section (and give us the info about where you found the original pattern so those who have it can try to help). But please don't post somebody else's entire pattern without specific permission from the author/designer/copyright holder.

We've also added a rule about putting large images behind lj-cuts. Right now, we don't have a specific size that must go behind a cut. So far, we've not had any real problems with this, so whatever you've done in the past is probably fine. If your image breaks somebody's friends page, we'll ask you to put it behind a cut. And if you post lots of images, we may ask you to at least put the majority behind a cut (again, saving folks' f-pages).

Plus, we've opened a new email account for the tatting-mods (or maintainers, or whatever you want to call us. I'd prefer something like "LJ Tatting Comm Goddesses" but somehow I don't think that's gonna happen....) If you're ever unsure about whether something is okay for the community or just want to run a question by us, please feel free to email us at that address (see below). At least one of us checks it every day. Keep in mind, there are currently only three of us, and we're all in North America. Sometimes, a bit of patience may be required. We have to sleep some time, y'know.... (Yeah, yeah, those of you who know me are wondering when exactly I do that. I wonder, too...)

Oh, and those of you on [livejournal.com profile] knitting may think this format looks a leeeetle bit familiar? Because it does. Our rules are quite blatantly inspired by theirs. Thanks, [livejournal.com profile] knitting-Mods, for such wonderful inspiration!

On to the:

Community Rules

1. Play nice. :) Follow the usual "courtesy" rules just like you would if we were all sitting together in somebody's living room.

2. We love tatting patterns and pictures of tatting, however: Please don't post copyrighted material. That means you can't post an entire pattern that you personally did not write (even if it's free, even if it's in an out-of-print magazine or book). It also means that you absolutely can post excerpts from patterns if you're looking for help!

2a. Please feel free to post links to patterns you've found online! Especially if you're posting a picture of something you've tatted and want to share your source!

2b. If your pattern is from a book or magazine, please post any info you have about the source: title, author &/or publisher (if you have those), link to a place where the rest of us can buy our own copies, etc.

3. Please place large images behind a cut. See FAQ #75 for instructions on how to place an lj-cut tag in your post.

4. Most importantly, have fun! :)

If you have any questions or concerns about anything in [livejournal.com profile] tatting, you may email the community maintainers: ljtatting AT gmail DOT com -- This address is checked daily by the owner/maintainers. Currently, we're all in rather similar time zones, so please be patient. Your messages will be answered as quickly as possible!

Thanks!
- Moni [livejournal.com profile] moniqueleigh (One of the maintainers)

P.S.: If anybody has something they'd like to add, please mention it in a comment. I'm sure we probably missed something really obvious, and I'm relying on you members to point out my "duh!" moments. :)

Thanks so much for all your hard work, ladies! I do apologize for being the impetus to bring this out, but I'm sure it will be helpful to newer members who find the community after even me. :-)
