I just joined this group - here's my obligatory "Hi, I'm here" post! I haven't been tatting for long - just a few months - and I admit I don't know much, but what better place to learn than here? Perhaps I'd know more about tatting if I didn't spend so much time online.... but anyways, I'm here!

Great pattern!! I've not done it yet (mostly because I'm not comfy yet with size 80 thread), but the designer is on LJ. Actually, she's on the list, so I'm sure she'd be happy to work with you if you get stuck on it.

As for the Yahoo lists, most that I've seen are very welcoming to newbies. I'm generally a lurker, but mostly b/c I'm so swamped here & with work, etc. I do try to help where I can there too.

Oh! and while it may seem that some of us have "centuries of experience," many of us are just as new as you! I've only been tatting consistently for a little under 3 years. I learned about 5 years ago, but had put it down for my xstitch (which I haven't touched in 3 years *embarrassed grin*) when I couldn't find any patterns.

Split rings aren't really that hard. Are you shuttle tatting or needle? If shuttle, have you ever made a stitch that didn't flip? That's what you'll be doing with split rings - lots of unflipped stitches! Please post any questions you have, & I'm sure we can find somebody to help!!

That's not cheating, hon!! We all do different sizes, depending on what we have available when we pick up the pattern. :) At least you're able to keep the same size difference. That should make the scaling work properly, I think. (Emma? You reading this? Whaddaya think?)

Oooo.... You have size 70 available? Locally, or do you buy online? I'm soooooo jealous of folks who have lots of supplies available locally. I can't afford very often to purchase stuff online (at least not yet), so I'm mostly stuck with the kindness of friends or whatever can be found (mostly Wally-World, meaning size 10).

Needle tatting basically wraps the thread around a needle (can be purchased special for tatting or one can just use a tapestry needle, etc). From what I understand, never having tried it myself, many find it easier to learn needle tatting as all of the stitches are unflipped. *shrug* Hmmmm.... "Nights on Broadway" - is that a Bee Gees reference for NYC or something else? If the former, :D I love those guys!

Heh. Several of my in-laws are in the Houston area. Hubs & I have been out once to visit, but I have no idea where I was most of the time. :) May have to send the MIL or SIL to Nancy's Knits. Hey, they're always wondering what to get me for Yule, etc.!

Oooo.... She's young & has good taste in music! Now, how d'you feel about Rick Springfield?? If you like his old Working Class Dog & Living in Oz stuff, you should know that his new CD is coming out next month: s/d/a/a official site

LOL, I'm very familiar with the "no money, no time" song & dance. Personally, when given the choice between book or show, I'll usually pick the book. There's almost always more in the book.

And yes, I think butterflies, snowflakes, & crosses are probably the most popular patterns out there. :)
